Powering Down Solaris 10 on an Ultra 5
Posted by Eric Kolotyluk

So I just got around to installing Solaris 10 on my Ultra 5 workstation.
I was running Solaris 8 before. I'm finding Solaris 10 a big disappointment.

Anyway, after playing around with it for a while I decide I want to
power down my system. I look around in the login screen: nope no way to
power down. I hit the power key on my keyboard: nope that doesn't work
either. I press the power button on the front of my Ultra 5 pizza box:
nope that doesn't work too. Finally I ran "init 5" as root and it
powered down fine.

So have Sun decided they don't want to support old hardware any more, or
is there some trick to powering down my system without running init as root?
