- Solaris and SunVideo Question
I have a Sparcstation 5 with sunvideo card. The card does not seem to run
on solaris 8 but will run on solaris 7. There is a warning about obsolete
graphics libraries on the solaris 8.
If I run a system as old as Solaris 7, will it be difficult to secure? My
intention would be to stop most services under inetd and use the old
pizzabox as a video remote with some image processing abilities.

- California Sun Microsystems computer systems employees
It seems that there is an issue in California with computer systems
employees of Sun Microsystems not receiving overtime wage compensation.
Apparently it is not uncommon for long coding hours to be overlooked for
overtime pay and in California there are specific laws in regards to this
that could effect lots of these employees. If you go to

So, I download the latest "stable" tar for perl (5.8.7) and try to compile
it on the Solaris 8 (SPARC) box that I administrate. I try all sorts of
different switches, but I can't get it to compile. I need it to be
compiled with threads.
Anyone have any wisdom on how best to do this?

So I just got around to installing Solaris 10 on my Ultra 5 workstation.
I was running Solaris 8 before. I'm finding Solaris 10 a big disappointment.
Anyway, after playing around with it for a while I decide I want to
power down my system. I look around in the login screen: nope no way to
power down. I hit the power key on my keyboard: nope that doesn't work
either. I press the power button on the front of my Ultra 5 pizza box:

Hi, I am a complete newbie when it comes to Sparcs and have a question
about an Ultra 5 I have just aquired.
Within the Openboot white screen the number of screen columns is set to
the default 80, however the 17" SVGA monitor is only displaying around
40 or so, with text wrapping to the next line. The screen looks very
large and I would like to have a higher resolution. I have not yet
installed an OS on the system, so I am just in Openboot Forth... [Read More]- Perl System Calls Within The Same Session (on Sun box)
I wrote a perl script that connects to a db2 database and does some

this:

$db2Out = `db2 connect reset`;
This script runs fine on Windows, and AIX, but when I try to
run it on Sun, it does not maintain the session information
